This post is dedicated to digital professionals who simply have too many tabs open in their browsers. Take a look at the top of your browser. How many are open right now? We can have up to 20 tabs open without realizing it! And our minds can’t possibly be in 20 places at the same time unless you are superhuman.
Mashable gave this effect a name, tab hoarding. The author of the linked post discusses how tab hoarding can give you the perception of multitasking and be productive, but it accomplishes the opposite. Furthermore, having multiple tabs open in your browser ultimately slows down your computer by consuming more RAM to operate.
By having too many tabs open, you are really slowing down your entire work process during the day.
This is one of the pain points Gretel is solving: consolidating web browser tabs and helping you focus on the important tasks you have to accomplish.
Okay, so you really, really need some browser tabs open 🙄. If you are a marketing professional, for example, you are referring to several data points from different systems. Your Google resources alone occupy a number of tabs, i.e.: Gmail, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Ads, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and, if you’re running campaigns for a brick-and-mortar store, Google My Business. These are only Google products! That’s 8 tabs already open, and if you have multiple clients, multiply that by the number of clients you have. The number of tabs becomes exponential.
Take a look at what the most essential tabs are first and then work from there. As mentioned above, if you have multiple clients, perhaps it would help to put all of the tabs from one client in a particular navigation window. Then you can put other clients’ respective tabs into their own windows and so on and so forth. Google Chrome recently came out with the Profiles hierarchy, where you can separate browser windows according to your Gmail login.
This is helpful to get some organization into your tabs, but is it enough? You are still going to bounce back and forth throughout the day.
Let’s take it one step further and close the useless tabs. Do you really need all of the tabs open right now?
Challenge yourself and get some of them down. Mind you, 5 of them may be specific email addresses for the different companies you are working with currently.
You can probably close another tab or two, but it’s quite a sacrifice mentally at this point. If you are suffering from “tab hoarding," we are here to help!🙌
As mentioned above, one of Gretel’s missions is to simply close the tabs and reduce the number of applications you need to access to do your work.
By connecting to all of your external marketing tools and data points, you can search and find all of the information you need from your respective accounts across the world wide web. Gretel brings it all together, so you can stay focused on your tasks 🧠.
Using Gretel, you probably still have a few tabs open, but at least it’s a step in the right direction, inching closer to sanity and farther from information chaos.
